Hello Everyone🐭 I didn't know where to post this or what to name it since it doesn't necessarily fall under the art club's submissions. Since we can post artworks created inside and outside the club, I wanted to share this art piece that I did outside the club and get some advice on it. It's inspired by a book I'm reading.
I used different HB and B pencils to do the shading and tried to refrain from using straight lines in order the give picture a more flowing look, but I feel like I could've done something more for it. I've always had issues with determining how the lighting should work thus, being confused on how I should shade the drawing. Does anyone have any advice on how I could overcome this?
Love your art! I always struggle with lighting too. 😅
My advice is to just keep playing with the shading and lighting of your art piece. When I draw, I would always decide where the main lighting is coming from. And either try to remember it, or mark it for reference. In your art, I assume the lighting is somewhere at the top, so darkening parts where you think will not be exposed to the lights will help expand your work.
I also recommend trying out darker pencils (maybe 6B to 10B?). You’ll be surprised at how dark a pencil can be! Don’t hesitate to fill a space with these darker pencils to add some dynamics to your art. Having a reference is always good too (especially with clothings)😁
