This is my first post on this website and I was painting a picture for Mother's Day for my mum (obviously). I used watercolors but I only had an hour to do it and tried not to make a mess this time, and I succeeded in doing both. I am not the best at taking photos so it doesn't look the same as it does in person but I am going to blame it on my phone. I was a little intimidated and hesitant to post this because I went and looked at all the other posts but I know we all start somewhere. I don't know why you read this far but thank you. Any tips on how to CONTROL WATER COLOURS would be much appreciated.

Beautiful! 😍
Thank you so much for the feedback!
Hi Leilani! (apologies for the late comment)
Your artwork is beautiful, and yes, everyone starts somewhere! We are all learning at different points in our art journey and that's perfectly fine :)
Feedback:
I think the light pastel colours suit the theme of Mother's Day well, and the gradient in the tulips is beautiful! The shading with the leaves is nicely done, and perhaps next time, you can challenge yourself to test out bolder shades of different colours to give your artwork a little bit more dimension!
I am not too familiar with watercolour painting; still, maybe you could try using a little less water(even though it is watercolour, it looks like the colour is bleeding everywhere, which I assume was not the intention) and less paint for one stroke to have more control. Letting your painting dry after the first layer before adding in the next layer with a different colour might also help!
Overall, I think it is a very pretty piece to have been completed in an hour, and I hope your mother loved it! ✨
Hey Leilani,
First of all, same. I saw others' art; it was so impressive that I was not initially willing to post my art. Everyone was lovely and gave good suggestions. So, it is a safe space for everyone.
Second of all, I love the artwork. I have never done watercolour so this is gorgeous! Your mom will adore it :)
