Hi
This is my submission for August's monthly submission. I used to use only one, number 2 pencil but this time I tried out using multiple pencils with different grades.
I think I should have done something with the background - though the unfinished collar is intentional.
I wanted to play around with shadows, only to end up making it look so evil! I don't think smiling would have helped though, because it would have make it look evil even more like Mr Burns from the Simpsons. Lighting is important - that's my takeaway.
One more thing, I failed drawing my hair- it doesn't look that bad in the photo but in real life, it looks like a hobo's. I don't want to look like a hobo in a portrait, I look like that every day! Is there an expert of drawing hair? Share some tips with me please!

About the hair, maybe put highlights and lowlights in when shading? The texture is there, but I think the light hitting your skin and the light hitting your hair isn't the same in the portrait. Hope this is helpful!
