Monthly Submission-Traditional

This month, I watched the first Avatar movie and decided to paint Toruk Makto using watercolours because he brought all the tribes together and is really vibrant. My favourite bit to do was his blue crest, because it was bright and didn't need me to paint a bunch of markings, and the pencil outline, because on top of watercolour it felt really smooth to draw.

Here is my go at cross-hatching! Its the newly discovered cat species in Bolivia, which I think is the most adorable thing ever... Quite a different technique compared to my usual shading methods; took a while to get the hang of it, but it was nice not to have pencil smudges all over my page 😅

This month I made a mixed media art piece of an exoplanet, TOI 1338b, surrounded by magical creatures for the theme Beyond.

I used a mix of various card stock, stick on gems, watercolours, acrylics, and highlighter to make it.

I like the way the colours shimmer at night.

I attempted an art study on Judith Kunzle, a Swiss artist who lives in south pacific (Rarotonga). She is known for her sketches of traditional dancers and watercolour landscapes. Her style incorporates loose flowy lines to capture the movement of dance, as well as harsh textured shadows to add depth to her paintings. I tried to replicate this with some sketches of pacific sharks, copying this style to add dynamic motion to the drawings.
