This is my august monthly submission. I did them digitally this time since it was my profile. Even digitally, I like black and white (probably because I never really use colour 🙃 ). I used pro create pocket.
By the way this looks nothing like me, but rather my whole art-work in my lifetime as one character. You can see I have a headphone, flowers and bubbles which are some of the elements I love using, and uses unconsciously when creating a piece. I am satisfied, though I need some suggestion from you guys to what kind of (e.g. shape, size) mouth and eyes fits the drawing here. I don't want it to be too cartoonish, anime-like, nor realistic. I always had a difficulty drawing faces, especially the balance between eyes, nose and mouth. That's why I always cover both eyes or even whole face of someone/thing in my artwork. 😂
Anyways, I enjoyed creating this piece!
Hi Hanae,
Beautiful artwork! I wonder what those marbled bubbles are -
I think the main reason your artwork tends to look like a cartoon when you add face parts is that you don't add shadows or color gradient. I'd recommend experimenting abstract art - (I found an informative video explaining what abstract art is: https://youtu.be/wE5IfS9LInY).
And these are some abstract portraits I randomly found on the internet. They're not cartoon-ish or too realistic. I believe the key is to use different shades to add dimensions while keeping your lines simple.
